Uni-what?

The stories engrafted into every piece of Polish Pottery makes each one a delightful treasure to collect and use in the kitchen—or display as décor.

The amazing fact that every piece is individually hand painted is still overwhelming. (We still have this keen memory of when we were first introduced to Polish Pottery and all it meant to us when we discovered this treasure.) Polish Pottery—and the stories and meaning behind it—is now here for you to discover.

The bottom of every piece of Polish Pottery has individualized messaging baked right in. Whichever 'design category' the piece is in is based on the skill level of the artist.

Each piece fits in one of three categories:

Traditional

The Traditional designs follow a “punching” technique of hand stenciling. The largest group of artists create this style. It represents the base price of the pottery. This is an excellent place to start your collection—if you haven’t already.

Unikat (Unique in Polish)

The Unikat designs are more rare than the Traditional and follow more intricately detailed patterns and incorporate more elements and colors. Each piece is identified on the bottom with the word “Unikat” and bears the artist’s name as a stamp.

Signature

In the Signature category the designer oversees every single piece of the pottery made. The designer can then put on their “signature” of approval. This is the highest level of artistic achievement. The signature pieces say the word Unikat also, but have the signature and/or the initials of the artist baked into the bottom of the respective pieces.

There’s a story on every bottom.
